Approximately 95% of the Djiboutian population is Sunni Muslim. While expatriate Christians, Orthodox Christians originating from Ethiopia, and local Christian background believers hardly experience any restrictions to practice their faith, Muslim Background Believers (MBBs) face pressure within the family and the community sphere. Although religious freedom is guaranteed in the constitution, the government attempts to control religious groups including Christians.
