Christian Persecution in Nigeria

The Islamist extremist agenda to bring Nigeria under the ‘House of Islam’ versus the election of a southern Christian as President has caused much unrest. The Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram, has claimed the lives of at least 800 Christians. The decisions of local government, especially in the twelve northern Sharia states, mean that Christians experience persecution and restrictions in schooling, threats of abduction, forced marriage, as well as denial of employment, clean water and healthcare. It is dangerous to convert and for churches to integrate new converts.

Lord God, help us to pray without ceasing for our suffering brothers and sisters! Lord God would you supply all that they need this day! Give them their daily bread and help them to keep their eyes fixed on you and to continue to have faith knowing how much You Love Them!! May they know that this right now is not eternity! It is still to come. May the Joy of the Lord be their strength!! May you alone be their comfort! I pray for your mercy upon Nigeria and that your name would be proclaimed even louder!!

Dear Father in Heaven. Praise be to your Holy Name. I pray Lord that the believers in Nigeria will be strengthened by your love, your joy and your peace. Please be with them, please give them courage to withstand persecution and even to preach the Gospel to their enemies. May your light shine in Northern Nigeria and even all over the country. May your Spirit comfort them in their distress. Please may the young Christians respond with love to their enemies when attacked. Give them self-control and love to trust in you and repay evil with good. Thank you for your love and grace and mercy. In Jesus Name, Amen.

I give thanks to God that his Word will not return void to him in Nigeria. We will suffer greatly in any case. If they hated our Savior Jesus Christ in his time they will hate us today. The World loves it’s own. Yet we are not of this world. This why we must and will endure thru prayer and trust in God’s Word. For Paul the Apostle wrote in Romans say”For not one of us lives ffor himself, and not one dies for himself; for if we live, we live for the God; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. for to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.” Rom 14:7-9. But he also said at another time, “And not only this, but we exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulations bring about perrseverance; and preseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Rom 4: 3-5.
    Let stand on God’s Word.

Lord, I come before You this morning to lift up the nation of Nigeria and all of the believers who live there. While I am grateful that believers have responded to recent increases in persecution with increased prayer and evangelism, I know that it is still very difficult for them to live in this environment. I am thankful and confident that you are giving them the strength that they need to endure trouble and persecution, and I ask for Your continued protection and provision for all of them. Thank you for every MBB who has found his/her Savior in You – please help the brothers and sisters around each MBB to become their family and to take care of them and provide for them.

I also pray that You would help the Christian youth to develop self-control and a love for their enemies. The “easy” thing to do would be to attack back – but I know that You are calling them to more. You promised to provide a way out when temptation comes, and I pray that You would provide that way out and make it very clear that You do not wish for violence to be perpetuated when opportunities arise to take vengeance.

Finally, I pray for the Open Doors volunteers and workers in Nigeria or who support Nigeria. I pray for Your divine wisdom for every counselor who has to speak to someone who has experience trauma because of persecution. Please give them the right words to say and the right way to comfort as You would comfort. I pray that You would also provide all of the financial needs and the supplies and materials that are needed to continue the work of supporting our persecuted brothers and sisters in Nigeria. In Jesus’ name, amen.

John 15:26-27 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27A nd ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.’
